I feel good!...............
Seriously, I feel very good about it. I'm in good shape for a tri this short (400m-12M-2M) and I feel very strong on the bike. I always seem to peek after my race season.
During the race season I was able to get my weight down to 175lbs. I thought that this would be my answer to my lack of performance problems on the race course. Well it wasn't. And actually I felt somewhat sluggish all season. After the holidays I jumped back up to 186.
Now through much healthier eating and more productive training, I'm back down to 180. I think my body likes this weight. I don't feel heavy, I feel muscular. I've never been stronger on the road bike and I'm able to keep up with the "fast guys" for quite a long period of time. I know part of the reason for that is also because I'm riding Smarter when I'm in a group but my conditioning helps. I still have a spare tire around the waist, but I know that I'm like a hundred sit-ups away from looking like Mathew McConaughey with his shirt off ................yeaaaaah right.
I think I'll finish well in the tri.
My wife on the other hand doesn't really mention the race. When I asked her last night if she was going to run today she said "oh, I don't know". I didn't say anything. I'm just going to let her do her own thing. I honestly think though that if I hadn't prepaid for the race, she, at this point, would have no problem with saying that she wasn't interested in doing it. So I don't know. Maybe she will surprise me.

ou want her to keep doing this? Here's the "winning" formula (no pun intended) - let her run her pace. Don't try to hang back with her and "encourage" her ("MOVE! MOVE! STROKE! STROKE! WHAT ARE YOU? A GIRL!!!"). Run at your "I GOTTA WIN! I GOTTA WIN! (runs over an old lady doing her first tri, kicking the walker out of the way) "OUTTA THE WAY, GRANNY!!! YOU'RE GOING DOWN!!!" pace. You'll get to the end, bask in the glory of beating most of the 90 year old blue hairs and assume the chest thumping "I'M THE MAN" pose.
Seriously, when you finish, grab the boys and wait at the finish for her. Heck, have them bring cowbells or air horns and cheer her across the line. YOU know how good it feels for them to be there - do it for her, too. It'll be worth it.
I'm at a svelte 200ish right now. I think I've gained like 5 pounds since the last Snake - should really help me this weekend (eyes rolling).
